Chain is a flexible detail which consists of consistently connected links and used to transmit rotation torque to the combine. Usually, chain speed is 7-8m/s. Drive with roller chain is able to transmit rotary motion at large axial distances with great power. Roller chains are single-, double-, triple- and four-row.
Single-row roller chain consists of external and internal links. To be more specific, the components of the chain are plates of external and internal links, cylinder, sleeve and roller. Pressed on the sleeves plates of inner links form fixed connection. Cylinder gets in the sleeve and forms a cylindrical swivel. External plates are pressed on the cylinders which are flared on the ends.
When connecting the sleeve with cylinder and roller occurs rolling friction, but when roller and sprocket tooth - sliding.
Multirow chains are composed of the same elements as single row, but cylinders are longer. Their load capacity is proportional to the number of rows. The number of links in the chain outline should be even. If the chain has uneven number of links, then use special transition units. Another type of roller chains are chains with curved plates (number of links can be even and vice versa). They are used in the shock loads.
The main reason for chains replacement is their breakage. In turn, the use of chains, in which degree of wear is above limits, leads to failure of spike and grain elevators, conveyor of the feederhouse and other components of the combine.
