In 1947 was made an official decision on the establishment of full-scale production of rolling bearings in the former Czechoslovakia. In the same year the newly established factory, owned by the group in Brno Zbrojovka Concern Lizin-established contact and began to cooperate with the British company Hoffmann. This became the basis for the development of bearings manufacture not only in Brno, but also in the country as a whole.
Despite all the difficulties, in 1948 began production of the first 28 types of bearings. By the 1st of January 1950 opened new manufacturing: Zavody presneho strojirenstvi, Brno - Lisen (Precision Machinery Factory). Gradually joined factories in Klasterec nad Ohri, Dolni Mecholupy and Kysucke Nove Mesto. All these companies at the time produced 155 types of bearings.
Since 1953 this producting and economic association operated under the name ZKL, and since 1976 - under the name ZETOR.
In 1959-60 started production of tapered roller bearings in Presov in 1961-63. Began to operate the new bearing factory in Skalica. Another company located in Blaitske Stroiny, began the production of tapered roller bearings at the plant Povazske strojirny in Pavarska Bystrica.
Between 1965 and 1980 production of 217 more types of bearings were moved from the company in Brno on other plants.
Constant demand for new types of bearings and the need to improve the technical level of equipment, design and quality of bearings led to the creation of ZKL VUVL (Institute of Research of rolling bearings).
After 1990 and subsequent division of the republic economic transformations of ZETOR Brno led, firstly, from detachment of bearing manufacturing from tractor factory, and further - to establish an independent company for the production of spherical roller bearings - stock company ZKL Brno, which in 1998 became the principal owner of companies ZKL Klasterec nad Ohri and VLT.
Contacts with clients are carried out by trade departments that are in group companies ZKL Brno and trading company ZKL Bearings CZ, which is located in Prague. Moreover subsidiary in Argentina ZKL Rodamientos focused on the South American market.
