The 300 Series John Deere engines was presented for agricultural customers in 1960 year. It was the first in-line 3-, 4- and 6-cylinder gasoline, LP gas and diesel engines.
The engines provided John Deere “new generation of power” tractors with an excellent reputation for performance and reliability and enabled John Deere to move into the No. 1 position in the agricultural industry. JD 3164 diesel was smaller in this series and has 3 cylinders only.
