The modern industrial form defines also the type of combine. With the launch of Senator model “Claas” company provides its combines with new design and typical light green colour.
In 1966 the Senator combine was presented, which was even more large-sized than Matador Gigant, and also had modern design and colour. In a year the Mercator combine was introduced, and the Senator was its prototype.
The Protector combine was a simplified model of the Mercator. These combines were fitted with 4 and 6-cylinder engines of Deutz and Perkins brands. The engines were located above the right front wheel. At the Protector and Mercator wide threshing mechanisms were installed. The driver’s seat was located in the middle of the combine. The Senator and Mercator were the first combine harvesters with comfortable driver’s platform. The Protector was thought to be comfortable combine for the driver, as it had fixed steering-wheel.
In 1972 some changes were brought into the construction of these combines and since then the Mercator combines were introduced into production. The Mercator was equipped with Perkins and Mercedes-Benz engines.
In 1975 the Senator and Mercator 70 combines were replaced by the Mercator 75. In some countries the Senator 85 was still being sold – the identical model of the Mercator 75. In England the identical to the corresponding numbers of Mercator – the Senator 60 and 70 models were sold.
